When Mantorville Farms began searching for just the right bowls for our signature fudge, we were delighted when we came upon a group of five potters in northern Minnesota. They work together in a company formed three years ago called KC Pottery.

The Finlayson, Minnesota company is all about art and not ego. “We want to feature the art in pottery instead of individual artists,” says KC Pottery’s spokesperson. “We’re a group of friends who enjoy pottery and enjoy working together to bring the strengths out of one another, so we chose to start a business together. We began by designing a decorative line of pottery and have evolved into offering functional pieces because we found that people like having a work of art that they can use. Each piece that we make is handled with detailed care, from the wheel work and glazing to the firing and packaging. Our goal is to provide a product of excellent quality that will be enjoyed time after time.”

KC Pottery specializes in hand-thrown reduction-fired stoneware pottery. In reduction firing, the potter “starves” the kiln of a certain degree of oxygen. This process draws out from the clay unique colors and unexpected flashes and hues, which cannot be obtained in oxidation firing. Notable characteristics of reduction firing are gentle green celadon, deep rich blues and purples, speckled molted textures, and startling “one of a kind” results.

The fudge bowls KC Pottery custom-designed for Mantorville Farms come in three palettes: cappuccino (a two-tone dish that combines two glazes), yellow salt (a classic looking glaze), and ivory and chocolate (another two-tone dish in traditional colors for reduction firing).

Mantorville Farm’s fudge containers are beautiful and distinctive pieces of functional art that can be used again and again. They are oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
